Good waves on Offer for the 2nd instalment of 2009

With a  clean swell on offer and most of the club top opens men’s ready to roll , Nth Steyne Boardirders held their 2nd event on the 2009 year and it was a great day out with some big scores going down in most divisions.
The Open men’s final was a cracker with Heath Irving posting 15.5 to out gun Dayyan Neve 13.5 , Dustin Atkinson 11.0 and Justin Cook 10.0 in what was a quality final. Its all fun but with $100 in cash and important point on offer all four went at it hard. Irving has now taken a sender lead in the race for this year’s crown.

Other divisions of note include the Open Women’s who turned up in great number to compete. The standard was all-time and it was Bonnie Hall who grabbed a tight victory from Jesse Horin , with Ashlee Maaka 3rd , Paige Houden 4th and Louie Smith 5th. In the 16’s Girls it was Jodi Randell who clamed top spot.
Other wins came from Max Brokman (18’s Boys), Jack Morrison(14’s Boys) ,Louis Dowling (12’s Boys) and Ben Serano (B Grade).
Other news It wasn’t our day at the Jim Beam surf tag at Narrabeen, with the team of Beau Mitchell(21.5), Dayyan Neve(13) , Dustin Atkinson (11.5) , Heath Irving(15) and Justin Cook (16.5) bowing out in the quarter finals.
It was tough but it just didn’t happen for us on the day placing third with 81.5 behind Bronte on  93.0 and Dee Why 85. but we will learn from it . The positive was the younger guys will get better in the format and Beau Mitchell again proved that he is the ultimate Tag Team surfer. The goofy-footer is truly the master posting scores of 26.9 and 21.5 in his two heats and the second score was done in an incredible 7 minutes. The only sad part for the team was the lack of support from club members, I’m sure that most knew It was on and to only have a few people shouting support was a bit lame, good on ya Timmy and Maddox , It’s important that we really get behind our teams in events like this.
